The final Combined Arms Exercise of the 2011 calendar year may not have gone off without a hitch but, ended very successfully none the less. Ground and Air Combat Elements were working in usual tandem on Sunday. A fairly new face to the party is the recent addition of the Mortars Section of the Weapons Platoon. The new Section is lead by LCpl VandeVorde and also consists of PFC’s Decker and Raguz. 1stLt Sledge, Weapons Platoon Commander, was very anxious to open the mortars section. During Sunday’s CAX they showed just what their capabilities are and, how valuable having a Weapons Platoon is to the Ground Combat Element (GCE).
Echo Company, 1st Platoon successfully gained control of the High Value Target (HVT) they were after and extracted him. The enemy dug in well around Devil’s Castle but, the combined arms approach the 15th MEU (SOC) Realism Unit took to eliminating them proved to be just too much.
With that out of the way the unit will be headed into their Winter Stand Down. The stand down will last approximately 23 days from Thursday December 15th, to Saturday January 7th. There will still be some activity during the stand down. HM2 Phillips will be hosting a ‘Holiday Marathon.’ It will consist of a race around Chernarus with bikes, HMMWV’s, LAV’s etc. Land NAV will be used, so it should be a pretty interesting adventure. It will last about 30-45 minutes and will take place on Sunday December 18th @ 1900 CST.
